Chapter 158: College Entrance Examination
On the fourth floor of the teaching building, several figures flashed past.
Bing Lanlan and Liuli Zi chased after Zhang You and Zheng Wanqing into Examination Room 407 one after the other. Wary of Zheng Wanqing’s fists, the moment they entered the classroom they rushed straight toward Zhang You.
“Ding-dong, examinee identity has passed verification!”
They did not pay attention to the suddenly sounding broadcast. Instead, they noticed something else strange: this time Zhang You neither dodged nor avoided. He even reached out his hand and, with a single motion, grabbed Bing Lanlan’s head?
Bing Lanlan: “??? You actually dare!”
She leapt up, about to angrily bite Zhang You’s neck, but at the same time belatedly realized a problem:
…Why did she seem to have become shorter?
Bing Lanlan clearly remembered that the setting for this invigilator body was 1.88 meters tall and powerfully built. How could Zhang You, who was under 1.7 meters, easily grab her head?
She raised her head in astonishment to look up, and at close range saw Zhang You’s ever indifferent face. Behind those plain glasses there seemed to be a strange glint:
“You lost.”
Nonsense!
Bing Lanlan sneered and continued attacking, but the smile froze on her face in an instant:
—She didn't feel the anger.
—And the attack did not land successfully either.
The influence brought by the invigilator setting, which ghosts could not disobey, had unexpectedly disappeared. When the bone-white claw struck Zhang You’s shoulder, it turned into an ordinary arm. When Zhang You turned sideways and avoided it, Bing Lanlan even lost her balance and knocked into a desk.
“Ahhh, if you want to fight then go outside to fight, don’t knock my admission ticket off!”
The examinee whose desk had been bumped looked terrified as he pushed Bing Lanlan away. Muttering, he quickly picked up his admission ticket, then nudged Bing Lanlan: “Here, your admission ticket fell too.”
“You dare block me? I’m an invigilator!”
Bing Lanlan stared wide-eyed at this NPC at the very bottom level of the examination hall.
"I'm part of the college entrance exam inspection team! If you're sick, go get treated; don't affect my exam." The student's eyes widened even more than hers.
“Your admission ticket has your name and photo written clearly in black and white, and your seat is even behind me. You say you’re an invigilator—why don’t you just say you’re a ghost?”
The admission ticket was shoved into her hand. Bing Lanlan raised it to look, and her pupils suddenly shrank:
“This isn’t me. No, this is me, this…”
“How is this possible?”
Liuli Zi’s disbelieving shout sounded even earlier than hers. The two ghosts turned and looked at each other, and in each other’s shocked pupils they saw their current appearances:
A true form completely different from their invigilator forms.
…Or rather, their true human forms!
Zheng Wanqing pulled the admission ticket from Liuli Zi’s hand and took a look, clicking her tongue in amazement. “So this is what your true form looks like. A baby face that looks like a ten-year-old kid. And you—huh, so short.”
She measured Bing Lanlan’s height with her hand. It reached exactly to her own chest, probably less than 1.5 meters.
If they had not personally seen the ghostly appearance peel away and change, even if they met again later, they probably wouldn’t have been able to connect the baby-faced girl loli in front of them with the middle-aged square-faced tall female teacher from just now.
Zheng Wanqing sighed with feeling: “Your game’s dungeon is really getting more and more vicious.”
Zhang You replied calmly, “At least now we’ve seen the true forms. If we meet again later, recognizing ghosts will be more convenient.”
Liuli Zi and Bing Lanlan: “……”
“Quiet! This is an examination hall—what are you doing?”
Several invigilators hurried into the room to stop the four of them. The two ghosts, Lan and Zi, immediately realized that they could no longer control or command the invigilators. The other party could even easily restrain them.
“Let go of me, I’m not an examinee!”
After gradually realizing what had happened, Liuli Zi began struggling frantically. “I never even went to high school, how could I possibly take the college entrance examination!”
Zhang You sneered and pushed up his glasses. “You never even took the college entrance examination, but didn’t you still come to be our invigilators?”
“……”
“We have already found the identity information you registered in the examinee system. The evidence is conclusive—stop trying to argue!”
The invigilators gave the two ghosts, Lan and Zi, no chance to struggle. They forcibly pressed them into the exam desks. The two ghosts seemed to be instantly bound by some kind of rule: although their faces twisted as if they were about to split apart, their hands could only tremble as they picked up pens, forced to begin the exam.
“Thank you very much for helping us bring back these students who refused to properly take the college entrance examination.”
When facing Zhang You and Zheng Wanqing again, the invigilators’ attitudes completely changed. They handed the admission tickets back with cheerful smiles. “Your examination hall isn’t here. Go up to the sixth floor and take a look.”
The two looked at each other, then looked down at their own admission tickets. The examinee information on them had also changed:
[University City College Entrance Examination Admission Ticket]
……
[Examination Hall: Room 607]
When the four from 606 gathered on the fifth floor, Tang Xinjue was helping Guo Guo shove the stubbornly resisting Lina Lü back into the classroom.
“I’m not taking the exam! I’m not!!”
The green-haired female ghost clung to the doorframe and refused to let go. Tang Xinjue pried her fingers off one by one. “Two days of the college entrance exam, four years of relaxation. Work hard once, happiness for a lifetime.”
The other three: thank you, our DNA just moved.
Lina Lü cursed loudly. “Do you think I’m stupid? This dungeon is an endless loop! As long as you don’t finish it, I’ll be stuck taking exams until I die!”
Tang Xinjue nodded. “It’s fine. Endure it. A lifetime passes quickly.”
Lina Lü: “……”
In the end she was still dragged inside by the invigilators. Before leaving, they could still feel her venomous gaze fixed firmly on Tang Xinjue.
“I won’t let you go even if I become a ghost!”
“Is that so?” Tang Xinjue smiled. “It’s fine, Xiao Lü tongxue. If anything happens, remember to call my name. My name is Tang Xinjue.”
The examination hall door slammed shut, cutting off all the sounds inside, including the college entrance examination loop that once felt like a nightmare to the four of them.
Guo Guo finally let out a long breath. “We shouldn’t end up back here again next time, right?”
She felt like she was about to develop college entrance examination PTSD. If the loop happened again, her mentality might collapse on the spot.
Tang Xinjue said, “Right now, the ones who possess the identity of college entrance examinees are not us. Naturally, someone else should take over the responsibility of this endless examination.”
As for the “exam” waiting for them next…
The four looked toward the direction of the sixth floor. In the originally empty hall where the fifth floor had once been the top, a redwood staircase had appeared at some unknown time, standing quietly at the end of their view.
Different from the last time they “went up to the sixth floor,” this time there were no ghosts waiting to hunt on the stairs. When swept with spiritual power, it was completely clean—so safe that it was almost surprising.
Entering the sixth floor, the entire silent corridor had only one door. The door was slightly ajar, with a redwood plaque marked “607” hanging above it.
Tang Xinjue tried probing with spiritual power and shook her head. “I can’t see inside.”
It was like walking through eighty-one trials—no matter how much hardship one endured to reach the end, one could never predict what the next trial would contain. For a moment, all four wore solemn expressions.
After a moment of silence, Guo Guo was the first to let out a breath and bravely stepped forward. “I’ll open the door. My exorcism and purification skills still have some remaining.”
Zheng Wanqing immediately reached out to stop her. “Your protective shield is already shattered. Let me do it.” As she spoke, she was about to summon her steel fists.
“No, I should—”
Tang Xinjue and Zhang You exchanged a glance. Sure enough, after only a few seconds, they unsurprisingly heard Guo Guo and Zheng Wanqing arguing about who should push the door first.
They rolled up their sleeves and each grabbed one of the arguing pair, dragging them backward so they wouldn’t accidentally damage the door.
“Stop arguing. Are you taking the exam or not? If not, go out and turn left.”
A cold male voice suddenly descended out of nowhere, and the few of them immediately fell silent and stopped moving.
As the air became quiet, the door creaked open on its own. Immediately, an empty classroom appeared before the four of them.
Looking around, the classroom looked perfectly ordinary, just like a normal examination hall—except for what was sitting on the chair…
An eyeball?
Behind the podium, a huge white eyeball half the height of a person filled the chair completely. As the classroom door opened, the gray pupil on the eyeball seemed to glance at them. The cold male voice sounded again:
“Come in.”
The four: ……
If they had not seen wrong, did that eyeball just roll its eye?
Under the gaze of eight eyes, the eyeball rolled them again—this time even more obviously. Its voice was full of impatience.
“Still not coming in? Don’t want to raise your university level anymore? Do you want me to go down and welcome you personally?”
Guo Guo swallowed. “You are…?”
“I am the invigilator for this match.”
The eyeball said coolly.
“Congratulations on arriving at the University City entrance examination site. Since everyone is here, then now, the exam begins.”
