About Translator

The hot water flowed from the ceramic spout, creating a graceful curved before hitting the tea leaves. It pooled on the bottom of the white ceramic cup, enveloping the leaves with heat and the surroundings with white vapor.

She gracefully put down the delicate teapot on its plate. "You are in luck, dear patron," she said, taking a cup and blew it in front of her. "The vagabond storyteller arrived in our teahouse just this morning."

You raised your gaze from the tea cups. "The vagabond storyteller?" You asked.

"Yes, have you heard? She goes from land to land, telling stories she heard from one land to the other." The woman gestured to the cups in front of her. "Stories are gateway to another world, don't you think? Perhaps from another time, from another place. Please, drink up and enjoy the tales."

You took one of the cups as the vagabond storyteller took her stage. Her eyes swept by yours and she smiled. "Dear patrons, what story would you like to hear today?"

Turns out I have not outgrown my juvenile dramatic flairs!

Hi there, you can call me Re. I am an aspiring translator. English is not my first language, but I do freelance translation work between my mother tongue and English. I started seriously learning Chinese in 2022 and even though I am still a beginner, I've been addicted to Chinese novels for years. Impatience led me to the wonderful world of machine translation (MTL), which believe it or not, actually helped me in understanding the Chinese sentence structure.

I've only realized it in the past few years, but I love translation work. The feeling of being a bridge between language, of taking something from one language, keeping the meaning, and showing it to an understandable words in other language... It's awesome. As I've always been a writer, I understand the hard work involved in creating stories and the joy of having people read it.

A gateway to another world. I've always believed that the worlds in work of fiction are all real, and perhaps us writers and storytellers just saw a glimpse of it, maybe in our dreams, in our imagination, and turned it into words. Beautiful, beautiful words that can makes us understand how big and wondrous the world is.

Above was my attempt in being poetic, an endeavor that I'd been failing since elementary school. Pardon me. But thank you for visiting here! :)

  1. Ah, but I'm using machine translation (MTL). I don't really 'translate' in the traditional sense, is that fine?
