Chapter 127: Dormitory Friendship League
"Are you an informer?"
The shield girl's voice was cold and chilling. "If you were an informer, why did you let so many of your roommates die before? Weren't they your roommates?"
Even if she was careless, she could see now that the real power in Dormitory 308 wasn't the ones pushed out earlier, but the masked man who appeared at the end.
From the moment Tang Xinjue's suspicious features fell on him, no, from even earlier, she should have noticed something was wrong.
The masked man spoke slowly, "First, [many roommates died] isn't true. How can two people be considered that many?"
"Second, my identity and position don't seem to be necessarily related to my roommates' life or death."
"Finally, don't just believe everything others say. Trust what you see with your own eyes, lest you be used as a tool."
The masked man pointedly said, "If I were the informer, I could have done the same thing as that girl. It might have been bold, but at least I'd have earned your trust, right?"
The shielded girl frowned, ignoring his subsequent provocative remarks and focusing on the key point: "You deliberately didn't save those two roommates."
A layer of frost seemed to settle in her throat. "You knew they would die, so you used their deaths to show weakness, leaving me no doubt about your position..."
The girl pursed her lips. The image of the last boy, killed by the big man and lying here, flashed through her mind, his repeated hesitations to speak, and his final, desperate plea for help.
The masked man laughed. "Classmate, so you're sympathizing with them? Even if you suspect them of being informers? That seems to contradict your righteous hatred of evil. Could it be... their fate has brought back some unpleasant memories?"
Even the smile that curved his eyes couldn't hide the venom. "Did I hit your sore spot? Want to attack me? That doesn't seem to be in compliance with the rules of this round."
The rules stipulated that during the Elf Capture phase, participants couldn't attack each other.
The shield girl stared at him in silence for two seconds before suddenly speaking, "This round will end. You'd better pray that the rules protect you until the end."
The masked man raised his other hand and snapped his fingers. "Then I'll wait and see."
A black mist suddenly erupted from his fingertips like a venomous snake, entangling the fleeing elf and pulling it back. Its cloak also squeezed back towards the shield girl, attempting to slip through the gap and return to the masked man's hands.
The girl instinctively swung her shield, but the next second, an invisible wall of air bounced her back, sending her several steps backward. The shield clanged into the ground.
The rules were in effect, and she could only watch as the masked man leisurely walked back. He tossed his cloak into the hands of his pale-faced roommate, and, like a servant, ordered him to fetch it, he casually dismantled a broken clothesline and used it as a folding chair to rest.
Perhaps seeing the situation had reached a point, he no longer bothered to try to conceal it.
The emergence of the black fog revealed his true identity: no candidate still alive could forget the terrifying curse of the serpentine black fog.
He had killed Gao Ying's roommate, attacked the three-girls dorm, engaged the shield girl at range, used the rainstorm to harvest heads to advance, and even recently participated in the team-wide wipeout of the large dorm's group... These fragments of information all came together with incredible clarity.
The informer, Yue Qiong!
The shield-bearing girl's grip tightened suddenly, and a scream echoed from downstairs. An elf suddenly expanded mysteriously, its two front claws hooking onto the railing as it leaped upward from the first floor. Its hind claws gripped a boy's shoulder, its sharp nails digging into his flesh, causing him to scream in agony.
"Help me! I don't want to die!" the boy screamed.
He admitted he'd been hoping for a lucky break, hoping his bicycle would transform into a motorcycle. He'd assumed the worst-case scenario would be a shower of green slime, but who could have imagined the final elf would undergo such a freakish evolution?
The mutated elf grew to twice its original size, leaping from the first floor to the third in the blink of an eye, landing on the opposite side with a thud, knocking the boy down.
A nearby student immediately threw several restraining items to try to save him, but the elf was quicker to dodge. Instead, the restraints struck the captured boy, only to bounce back again due to the rules of the game.
"Help me!" the boy cried in despair.
Seeing the elf flying towards her, the long-haired girl flung her round shield without a second thought. It struck the boy's forehead, startling him so much that he lost focus and thought he was doomed.
The sharp metallic gleam of the shield flashed in front of the boy, then stopped abruptly. Under the girl's control, it swung upward, ripping the elf's tough skin. With a shriek, the elf spurted out a venomous spray, threw the boy down, and leaped away.
The shield girl ignored it, securing him against the edge of the guardrail with her shield to prevent him from falling.
The boy, recovering his composure, tried to offer a few words of thanks, tears welling up in his eyes, but the shield girl interrupted him, "Can you get down on your own?"
He was startled: "Huh?"
He looked down and saw, on the distant ground, covered in a thin layer of white mist, a sinister dark red hue that had begun to swirl across his vision.
The boy: "..."
He swallowed hard and pleaded cheekily, "Can I stay on your dormitory balcony for a while?"
The shield girl, hearing this request for the first time, instinctively turned to look warily at the masked guy—Yue Qiong was leaning against the railing, observing the elf's escape route. With a flick of his finger, black mist followed it like a shadow.
As for the boy who had been rescued, Yue Qiong hadn't even glanced at him the entire time, even less concerned about his life than his cowering roommates.
The shield girl gave them a cold glance, then turned and offered the boy her hand: "Come up."
The boy hurriedly climbed up, thanking her profusely and introducing himself: "My name is Ma Xiaobo, and I'm from Dormitory 101 in Building 101. Don't worry, the four of us are absolutely 100% good people. Classmate, you... Hey, why is your dormitory empty?"
Glancing at the empty half of the balcony, Ma Xiaobo belatedly realized: "Are you the only one in your dormitory?"
The shield girl didn't answer.
Ma Xiaobo shuddered and quickly apologized, "I'm sorry, I was just having a brain twitch. I meant to say this balcony is so clean, no, this shield is so cool..."
"Don't let him stay too long," the shield girl suddenly spat out.
Ma Xiaobo, frantically trying to make excuses, was startled: "What?" Was she trying to kick him out? Was he going to die here today for his bad mouth?
The shield girl raised her eyes and explained, "No, that's not what I said. It's..."
She fell silent again.
It was Tang Xinjue's voice that had just echoed in her mind.
Unlike the first time she'd been nervous about hearing Tang Xinjue's telepathic message, the shield girl had gotten used to it.
She'd just accidentally spoke it out again. Knowing she wasn't good at explaining, she simply focused on the conversation with Tang Xinjue: "Why did you tell me not to let him stay too long?"
This time, Tang Xinjue didn't respond immediately.
Her heart sank. She quickly climbed over the railing and looked up. She saw the screaming mutant elf hanging on the sixth floor, in the direction of Tang Xinjue's dormitory!
Tang Xinjue was confronting the elf, or to be more precise, she was confronting another wisp of black energy that was binding the mutated elf.
"Yue Qiong."
Tang Xinjue sucked up the elf with a toilet plunger while distractingly reminding the shield girl, even clearly stating the name of the black fog's controller.
A laugh emanated from the black fog. "It's not fair. It seems the whole world knows my name, but I don't know yours."
Guo Guo hid behind Tang Xinjue, clutching the pendant tightly and silently chanting the purification mantra, not forgetting to quip, "What do we tell you our name for, waiting for you to curse us?"
Although they hadn't learned much about the masked guy since the start of the competition, one thing was certain: he was an absolute psychopath.
It wasn't clear if the game had made him so, or if he was inherently antisocial.
The elf's shrill howl interrupted their conversation. It had no way of dealing with the black fog, so it could only unleash its full venom on 606. The green slime blanketed the four people's shields, corroding one hole after another.
"We can't go on like this. We've lost too much of our shield."
Zhang You made a quick decision. "Give me the cloak. I'm going out."
The elf was on the clothesline. If she could jump up along the railing, she could trap it.
Guo Guo opened her eyes. "Are you crazy? What if you fall?"
Zhang You was about to speak when Zheng Wanqing snatched the cloak away.
Zheng Wanqing draped the cloak over her broken left arm, looked up and smiled. "Don't argue. I just talked to Xinjue about a plan. Just wait and see!"
She grabbed the railing with her right hand and swung it over. With a swing of her left hand, a huge steel figure appeared from nowhere and slammed into the elf.
This time, the steel fist was covered with a bulging cloak.
"Jijie—"
There was a loud bang, and the elf's head was dented by the hammer. It struggled frantically.
Another bang, but this time it was a flying shield that happened to hit it.
Surrounded by multiple enemies and ambushed on all sides, the elf had nowhere to hide under the suction of the toilet plunger and could only be covered by the cloak. It screamed for a long time before it was completely quieted.
A large blue elf ball appeared in the cloak.
Zheng Wanqing caught the cloak and jumped back. Her agility and balance were completely unlike those of someone with an incomplete arm.
Behind her, a wisp of black air lost its prey and quietly escaped from the cloak.
Unfortunately, although it successfully escaped the iron fist, it could not avoid the other suction.
On the third-floor balcony, Yue Qiong frowned suddenly.
He looked with a wisp of spiritual consciousness attached to the black air and found that the suction came from the toilet plunger that was already aimed at him.
Inside the orange-red rubber head was a dark round hole, like a bloody mouth eager to eat.
Then this mouth made a gurgling sound and swallowed the black air in.
Yue Qiong: "..."
Was he, just now, got eaten?
