Live From the Murder Scene - Chapter 10

Chapter 10: Shock

When Qiong Cang walked up, there was a burst of boos from below.

At first there were only a few or two sounds, but more and more people followed, and all the sounds became one.

Several teachers tried to interrupt and grabbed the first troublemakers. Unfortunately, there were too many people, and they cannot stop the general trend of "public opinion."

When Qiong Cang stood in the middle of the command podium, those boos turned into laughter again.

All kinds of unknown laughter spread in the air, and they probably didn't even know what they were laughing at.

Qiong Cang stood high, looking from one end of the crowd to the other.

Her pupils were dimmed by the light, making her face paler.

It turns out that when you were stared at by countless pairs of malicious eyes, you would feel a kind of creepy tremor.

When those dense jeers come together, there would be a kind of trembling fear.

The absurd scene was like a giant net, draped in front of her.

Qiong Cang watched quietly, and finally laughed.

The teachers and students were a little frightened by her sudden smile, and their shouting gradually became quieter.

The same went for the audience in the live broadcast room.

"I'm not afraid of the boss being angry, but I'm so afraid of her laughing..."

"RIP and wish them well in advance."

"This shot is so impressive that it makes people feel uncomfortable."

"If it were me, I just want to blow their heads off. These people made me so angry that I can't think!"

"Welcome to the big TV series: the World of Idiots."

"I hope its follow-up plot is: the Confessions of the Idiots."

    ·

In fact, not long after Qiong Cang came up the stage, a male voice in the audience shouted loudly: "Are you crazy! Get out of here if you are crazy!"

Someone else quickly answered: "Yes! Get down! Who wants to see you!"

    "Apologize!"

    "Get out!"*

Qiong Cang raised the microphone and spoke slowly to everyone.

    "I hate studying psychology."

    Her first words were strange.

"Because I hate trying to figure out other people's psychology. It is an unpleasant thing. However, many times, human instinct still forces me to feel the emotions that others inadvertently reveal."

Qiong Cang paused as she spoke, then glanced at the middle-aged men standing in the corner.

"For example, these people standing behind me have serious expressions on their faces, but they are secretly happy in their hearts. They are secretly happy that they have deceived a group of students who are so stupid that they cannot think independently."

The students who were already restless became even more restless after receiving her ridicule.

Qiong Cang turned her head and said to the small room on the other side: "Classmates at the radio station, I suggest you not to cut off the sound. Two students in No. 1 Middle School have committed suicide one after another. Just now you allowed a classmate to accuse me of crimes in front of all the teachers and students in the school. If you don't give me a chance to clarify, I think the public and the police will have absolute reasons to suspect that you are deliberately pitting students against one another, condoning and even leading to school bullying. Then I will call the police directly, and contact the media by the way. I think school leaders should be very afraid of these two getting involved."

The commotion grew louder and louder, and the noise even faintly drowned out Qiong Cang’s words.

Qiong Cang smiled: "Thank you. What I want to say is actually very short. I may not be able to convince you, or in other words, if I convince you, I may not be able to make you admit it.

"Xu You accused me of forcing Zhou Nansong to die. Of course I don't accept such accusations. The reason is simple, because there has never been any concrete evidence to prove that Zhou Nansong died because she couldn't stand my bullying. They were just some speculation."

Her voice was very clear, and her unhurried speed caused the noisy students to fall silent for most of her speech.

"So far, everyone, including my classmates, my roommates, and maybe even my teachers, in fact, have not seen any extreme behavior on my part. Otherwise, with the righteousness of their hearts, they would have already taken action to stop it. However, after Zhou Nansong died, they subconsciously believed that I had done even more egregious things to Zhou Nansong in private. Why?

"The word 'private' is a very interesting word. It seems that I can always go against the laws of natural science, find a place without people, and exercise mental bullying against Zhou Nansong without physical contact. At the same time, I can force her not to reveal this to anyone. Even if there was strong irrationality in it, they still determined it this way. On what basis did they determine it?"

Qiong Cang took two steps on the command platform, lowered her head, and looked at the toes of her shoes.

    "Let me tell you.

"Everyone here has ever said bad words, fought, cursed, had a conflict, made excessive jokes, had out-of-control and extreme thoughts, hated someone out of selfishness, or isolated someone. We’re all humans. So you, everyone who has done this, you have all committed the same mistake as me. You should also stand on this stage, accept criticism from the masses, and repent of your mistakes. Let thousands of people in front of you scold you to 'get out*'."

*original text ‘roll’, a rude version of telling people to get out

Qiong Cang stopped, stretched out her hand forward, and asked: "How is it? Which side of the people is more like a madman?"

Some people's expressions were still angry and disdainful, some people were indifferent, and some people were wavering.

Qiong Cang: "You like to use group morality to guilt-trip others.* Be righteous, be kind, be fearless, and move forward courageously. However, although selfishness is not something worth promoting, it is also human nature.

*literally translated ‘group morality to kidnap others’, as in moral kidnapping, or moral coercion; forcing ordinary people to upheld the moral standards of saints

“Not daring to move forward because of fear.

“Not wanting to give it up because you cherish it.

“Not being humble because you attached a great importance to it.

“Not letting it go because you long for it.

"Are these unforgivable things? Do you need to hold up your weapons and chop her to death? Do you need to gather together crazily and carry out a crusade on her?"

Qiong Cang raised her chin slightly and looked at everyone with a sarcastic look.

"What is your ultimate goal? One life for another? Looking at Wang Dongyan, will I die in your pursuit of justice and give my life as a memorial to this revolution? Really?"

Her last words suddenly became stern: "Isn't this murder? Is it worthy of you being so happy?"

The student group was silent for a moment, and then someone yelled angrily:

"Bullshit*! I wouldn't do such an extreme thing to a depressed person!"

*放屁, literally fart, slang meaning nonsense, bullshit, speaking without basis

"Don't secretly change the topic. You were the one who killed your roommate first!"

"You are so shameless! Do you want to say that what you did is nothing at all, or do you want to say that the victim's psychology is too fragile? How can you have the nerve to say such things!"

A harsh noise came from the speakers, covering up the voices of the students.

Qiong Cang took out her cell phone from her pocket and found that He Jueyun had sent her more than ten text messages earlier, but she didn't see them. And the latest one was just now.

She turned around and looked into the distance.

A tall figure was quickly crossing the stairs and playground, running towards her.

He Jueyun took off his coat and held it in his hand. He didn't know how long he had been running, and he was already covered in sweat. His bangs were wet and stuck to his face, leaving him completely imageless. He was originally a model of a middle-aged ordinary policeman, but now he has become even more inconspicuous.

He walked to a place where Qiong Cang could see him, pointed at the phone, then pointed at the student, and made an encouraging gesture towards her.

After reading the text message carefully, Qiong Cang raised her lips and revealed a smile with unknown meaning.

She straightened her back and her voice became louder.

"It seems that some people still don't understand what I said. Then I will give you a straightforward answer to the reading comprehension test.

"Zhou Nansong's last words did not mention me at all. The subject of her words was the school. Her descriptive words were, 'I didn't expect the school to become such a place' and 'I can't hold on anymore.' Explanation: The fact that she is helpless means that she has tried various methods without any breakthrough. But according to what you said, no one in the school has done anything violent to her except me. Why should she extend it to the scope of the entire school? If she wants to counter me, it's very simple, she just needs to tell the teacher.

"Maybe as that idiot said, it was because Zhou Nansong has depression. I have never suffered from depression, so I don't judge the impact that depression will have on humans. But I think, for a person who always hates herself, compared to hating herself, it should be because it’s more difficult for her to accept the death of her best friend, right?”

Qiong Cang raised her mobile phone and said to everyone: "On the day Tian Yun died, the police asked the school for a copy of the surveillance. Now there is clear evidence that the surveillance was fraudulent. The school changed the time and images to create the illusion that Tian Yun committed suicide by jumping off the building after returning to the dormitory.

"And Zhou Nansong should be aware of this matter.

"I think this is the only thing that can be worth the serious accusations mentioned in Zhou Nansong's last words."

The crowd instantly became excited because of her words. Even the school leaders on the side also looked panicked.

Qiong Cang asked gently: "Who changed the monitoring time? Who pretended to be neutral and punished me, and couldn't wait to tell you that Zhou Nansong committed suicide because she couldn't bear the bullying on school? And you guys, what role do you play in it?"

The students started making noises like headless flies, looking blankly and innocently to the people on the side to verify the information they had just heard. The scene was chaotic and out of control.

A teacher from behind quickly rushed forward, trying to grab the microphone from Qiong Cang's hand.

"I suggest you don't move. The police are down there." Qiong Cang took a step back and distanced herself from the people in front of her.

He Jueyun, holding his coat in one hand, had already flown up to the command platform two steps at a time and stood in front of her.

    "I'm not done yet."

Qiong Cang circled around and walked to the edge of the command podium, facing a group of stunned students who were actively asking for confirmation.

To Wang Dongyan, these people were so abominable.

    "Actually, I was indeed wrong.

"I was too naive. At first, I really thought you were just a bunch of lost lambs. It turns out you were not.

"You are just immersed in a self-satisfied sense of justice. That sense of justice is actually just a kind of pathological vanity that can help you vent your pressure that you have nowhere to put. And this pathology, as the rumors spread, has become more and more complicated. The subconscious deepens, spreads from individuals to groups, influences each other, and finally becomes your ridiculous belief.

"You feel that your resistance and bullying have become justice. You feel that you are unique and filling the social hole that the law cannot fill.

"You people, you are just relying on the luck of having more people and not having to take responsibility, to enjoy the superior status of a judge who criticizes the fate of others. So you try your best to hide your inner despicableness and are unwilling to admit your mistakes. You are unwilling to face it, the consequences of your actions. In the final analysis, you are ignorant and irresponsible. After many years, you may be able to discover your mistakes, but by then, you will find a new excuse to explain yourself: 'At that time I'm still young.', 'Everyone did that at that time, I just said a few words.'. How can it be that simple?"

"I tell you, the more stupid and incompetent a person is, the more they need the pain of others to prove their strength."

"You are actually that kind of people. Under the guidance of others, you easily become a scum. I hope you will always be so lucky and will not experience the same bullying as them. Remember this lesson, idiots.”
